Primary backing is present in all tufted carpets. This sheet of fabric binds the carpet yarns and ensures dimensional stability. Depending on the projected application, the primary backing can be either woven or non-woven.
Following the chemical adhesive application, secondary backing is attached to the future carpet. It is a fabric or foam latex sheet forming the underside of a carpet and directly contacting the floor surface. Backing system adds comfortable features to a carpet providing greater dimensional stability, resilience, durability noise reduction, thermal insulation, and skip-resistance.
